Bread of Life
Each week we are blessed to have Costco donate bakery items to our church. We utilize those donations in several ways. One way we use the donated items is to bless the people who attend our church. In the front entryway of the church, we have 2 tables set up each Sunday with items that have been donated. Some weeks there isn’t a lot available, and some weeks the tables overflow. We encourage those in attendance to take as much bread/bakery items that they can use. Many of the items are nearing their expiration date, but are great for immediate use or to freeze for a later time. We then encourage those in attendance to take a few other items and share them with their families, friends, and neighbors. Sharing these items with those in our church, along with encouraging them to give to their friends helps to expand this ministry. Our hope is that this helps relieve some of the financial burden that people deal with on a weekly basis. It might not seem like much, but if we can give someone $5.00 worth of bread, then they can spend that money on meat or vegetables or add it towards rent. Lastly, depending on what and how much is donated to our church that week, we take any extra bread to several other distribution outlets also. We have taken these items to other local ministries in the KC metro, to men’s/women’s shelters, retirement communities, and even directly to the homeless in our city. Please feel free to take advantage of this great ministry. God shares with us the Bread of Life (John6:35), we simply try to pass along that blessing to others.
